Description

NGC 3503 is an Emission Nebula in the Constellation of Carina that is not often imaged on its own due to its famous neighbours such as the Statue of Liberty, the Southern Tadpole, or Carina itself. Despite this, I find this object quite striking if you dedicate sufficient time to capturing the various emission lines. When doing so, there is a clear delineation between them, which creates quite pretty colours when blended together in SHO in equal proportions. Additionally, there is quite a lot of movement in the frames, with strong stellar winds sculpting the surrounding ionised gases into interesting structures and providing a good amount of dynamic range. This makes NGC 3503 a very interesting object to photograph.

It took my time to balance the emissions and get the blends just right in order to achieve smooth transitions between the emissions, gradually shifting from red, yellow, green, purple, cyan, and blue hues that represent where the Sii, Ha, and Oiii emissions are located.

Below you will see the starless emissions Sii, Ha, and Oiii respectively.Screenshot 2024-04-15 at 10.44.23 PM.png

This below is my favourite part of the image cropped from the master tiff file. If I had a crazy resolution on and focal length to boot this would have probably been the part I would have focused on.
